While we are all familiar with the arms, the aspects that align the muscles and bone structure when the arms are in certain positions can make drawing difficult.

Because of this, learning how to draw crossed arms can become frustrating when you go blind.

With the guide you’re about to develop, there’s no need to accept this drawing challenge blindly!

Our step-by-step guide to drawing crossed arms will show you how easy it can be once you know what to do.

How to Draw Crossed Arms

Step 1

When you face a drawing challenge like this, getting the muscle curves right is essential, so that’s what we will focus on in this step of our how-to-draw crossed arms guide.

Using the reference image we’ve provided to help you, carefully draw a series of curved lines that connect and overlap.

They might not look like arms yet, but once you’ve added them in the next few steps, you’ll see it all come together to form the crossed arms!

Step 2

In this second step, we will draw the forearm of your crossed arms. This is another step where following the reference image as you draw will be very helpful.

In the previous step, you drew the outer lines of the arm, and we’ll start going inwards for this step.

You can extend a line from the bottom of the line you drew in the previous step, and this line will go at a sharp angle to form the elbow of the left arm.

Then you can add longer curved lines to this elbow and above to form the left forearm. If that sounds complicated, the reference image will help you get it right!

Step 3

You’ve already brilliantly drawn one arm, so now you can draw the right one! In this step of our how-to-draw crossed arms guide, you’ll repeat what you did in step 2, except mirrored.

The hand on the left arm goes behind the right arm. The hand on that arm then goes under the left.

Again, it may sound complicated, but it’s easier once you follow the steps!

Before moving on to the next step, you can add straight lines near the top center of the crossed arms for the collarbones.

Step 4

Having a pair of arms without a head across them would look a little spooky. To avoid this, let’s add a head in this part of the crossed-arms design!

First, you can draw two vertical lines for the neck on which the head will sit. Then you can draw the head with a rather subtle oval shape. Then you can draw ears on the sides of the head.

We’ve kept the head design reasonably straightforward, but you can always make it more appealing if you’d like!

Crossed arms are still the star of this show, but it never hurts to add some of your touches.

Add many small curved lines along the arms, as seen in our reference image.

Once you’ve added those final touches, add as many touches and details as you’d like!

We touched on how to add more detail to the face in the previous step, and now you can go even further by drawing a natural face on it. You could even draw your face on it!

You can also draw other aspects, like a shirt on the body or an exciting background.

Step 5

In this fifth step of our how-to-draw crossed arms guide, you need to add some small final details to complete the look of the muscles.
